Unlock Your MultiSensory Canvas: Your Ruyao beads are a personal canvas for your eyes and nose. Using plantbased dyes and themematched fragrances, you can transform them into a complete sensory experience: a lightning storm you can see and smell, a forest that feels alive with the scent of pine, or a rose garden captured in color and aroma.

To spark your creativity, we'll use the "Night Sky Lightning" theme as a stepbystep example. Follow this guide to master the technique, then let your own ideas run wild.

The Core Technique: A TwoStage Layering Process

The magic lies in patient, layered dyeing. This twostage method—used here for lightning—can be adapted to create countless effects.

What You'll Always Need: Your Ruyao bead bracelet, plantbased dyes in your chosen colors, small containers, soft cloths.

The GameChanger: Theme Scents. Add a few drops of a complementary, skinsafe fragrance or essential oil to your dye mixtures. (For our lightning theme, we recommend a few drops of petrichor (the scent of rain on dry earth), ozone, or crisp mint into the dyes to evoke the electric, clean air after a storm.)

The Universal Process:

1.  The Scented Foundation Layer (Multiple Days): Submerge your bracelet in your scented base color dye for several days. This sets the deep color and the foundational aroma within the cracks. (We use cobalt blue with a petrichor scent). 

Wipe the surface clean and let dry completely. The scent will subtly linger from within the cracks.

2.  The Scented Accent Layer (The Daily Ritual): Submerge the bracelet in your second, contrasting and scented color. Then, begin the daily ritual: each day, remove the bracelet, wipe the surface glaze clean, and observe the accent color building up inside the cracks. (We use bright white with a clean ozone scent).

This patient process layers both the color and the fragrance, creating a complex, multisensory artifact.

After the Scented Foundation Layer, use a finetip brush to add details on the surface of the glaze before starting the Accent Layer. You can even mix a little fragrance with your paint. Then, proceed with the second scented dye to make your crackle patterns pop.
